According to the drug name, Bactrim, it is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, soft tissues, bones and joints, teeth, blood and mucous membranes, and soft tissues.

“The broad-spectrum efficacy of this drug is due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. This drug has no systemic absorption or metabolism into any biologically active forms and therefore should not be taken orally.”
Bactrim is available in multiple strengths, including 50 mg, 250 mg, and 500 mg tablets. The generic drug has been approved by the FDA since 2003.
